A sweet new chapter for Luminary Bakery
Date
We were delighted to hear from TFN charity alumni, Luminary Bakery with the wonderful news that it is opening a new bakery and café at Google's headquarters in King's Cross!
Founded in 2014, Luminary supports women who have experienced trafficking, domestic abuse and other forms of violence and disadvantage, helping them rebuild their lives through baking, training and employment opportunities.
TFN first supported Luminary in 2017, helping to fund baking and employability training for 21 women, alongside mentoring and career support for 24 graduates. In 2018, we supported a further 21 women through its training programme, continued support for 30 graduates, and an evaluation to help Luminary understand and improve its impact.
We supported Luminary again in 2020, this time helping it invest in a Programmes Manager to strengthen its leadership, support frontline staff and expand its programmes.
It's wonderful to see how far Luminary has come since we first met the team in 2017, when it was still a fledgling project of the charity Kahaila!
The new café will introduce its products to a much wider audience, raise awareness of the challenges faced by the women it supports, and create more opportunities for women to gain work experience, apprenticeships and paid employment.
And perhaps you can help with this next chapter? Luminary would love to hear from businesses interested in corporate catering, supporting its graduates into employment or helping spread the word about its new café.
If you can help, please contact Managing Director, Leila, at leila@luminarybakery.com - and do let us know if you do. We'd love to hear about it!
