YFN & Year Here to celebrate their third year of events together!

Year Here, friends of TFN, have hosted two events with Young Funding Network (YFN), supporting inspiring new projects over the last two years. Ahead of the Crowdbacker event on 13th June and their pitch at our TFN event on 17th May, we spoke to Mike Simpson to find out more about Year Here.

Can you tell us a little about Year Here?

Year Here is a postgraduate course in social innovation based in London, designed to help young people build entrepreneurial solutions to tough social problems.

In the last 3 years our Fellows have launched 9 new social ventures, committed 150,000 hours volunteering in Frontline services and run 18 social impact projects across London – from youth social entrepreneurship events, to East End community consultations.

Why have Year Here decided to partner with YFN for the past two years?

We've built a lot of expertise helping social ventures successfully start-up, but we wanted to connect with a forward-thinking partner who could help us link our entrepreneurs with the early-stage support that they need. YFN understands how crucial the first year of a young ventures life can be, and have joined us in developing a platform that gives our ventures the best chance possible of success.

What do you find beneficial about partnering with YFN to host live crowdfunding events?

YFN supports entrepreneurs in a meaningful way, with much-needed start-up capital and the assistance and expertise of a wide-ranging network. They know exactly how to deliver atmospheric, purposeful events – and we wanted to learn from best practice in the field.

What are you looking forward to about Year Here and YFN’s 3rd event this summer?

This year we're going for a bigger audience, a more dynamic event and we're selecting from a wider-ranging pool of ventures – everything is super-sized – so we can bolster our young entrepreneurs' eventual impact. We're also pretty excited about some of the secret prizes we have in store.

Year Here is pitching at TFN’s live crowdfunding event in May. How are you feeling about coming to pitch to our members?

We're looking forward to meeting the TFN network because we know they have a great track record of contributing to seriously ambitious social impact organisations. It's a rare opportunity to share our ambitions for a more socially entrepreneurial society with such a large audience, and we're hoping many members will join us on the journey towards achieving our mission.
