Centring women's experiences in Hungary
Our longtime international partners from Hungary, The Roots and Wings Foundation, have launched a new Women's programme with an aim to strengthen a women-centered approach and to integrate women's narratives, experiences and interests into Hungarian society.
The first highlight of the Women's programme was the Women's Day Live Crowdfunding Night on 8 March, where they presented four very different causes, working in different fields, with diverse means, but for the same goals. This was an innovative format for the Foundation as it had a thematic focus and featured four teams. The evening brought together over 100 people in the room to make a difference and in just three hours the teams raised 4.8 million forints (£12,000)! The event was covered by nlc.hu, the leading online women's magazine in Hungary who are the strategic media partner of the new Women's programme.
Tamas Scsaurszki, chairman of the Board of Trustees, was also instrumental in nominating one of the projects for our own March International Connector event. “In addition to organising our own Live Crowdfunding Night, we nominated and prepared one of our previous applicants, the Experiential Youth Association from Pécs, for the TFN online event, where Zsófi and her team raised £7,500 to expand their resilience-building programme for disadvantaged Roma girls.”
We are extremely proud of the work our partners are doing internationally and how the TFN model has allowed previously underfunded causes, like women’s issues, to be placed on the agenda.
