2020 in brief: A message from our CEO, Eugenie Harvey

As our Chief Executive, Eugenie Harvey, said in this short video back in December - what a year 2020 was! Not one we will forget in a hurry, and certainly one of the most difficult that many of us have faced. Aside from the very evident threat to health and life, we have seen countless other social issues worsening and quality of life for many people deteriorating rapidly. But one of the few positive things to come out of last year was a sense of solidarity, shared experience and understanding which has only brought us closer together and allowed us to increase our collective impact. We have seen a response from those around us - both our Members here in the UK and our wider international network - that has strengthened and uplifted us. Thanks to our many members and supporters, TFN has not only survived but thrived over the last 12 months – meaning we have been able to continue supporting the work of vital charities when they have needed it most.

Last year we held 2 in-person and 11 online events, raising over £500,000 for 46 charities. More people than ever were able to join our events, and we were delighted to welcome guests from as far away as Peru, Mexico and Nigeria. Amongst many other things, we supported TFN Member Patricia Hamzahee to launch the Black Funding Network with great success, raising over £35,000 for three inspiring organisations. We look forward to continuing this exciting new partnership in 2021.

We hope that you, our Members and supporters, feel as proud as we do of everything that has been achieved over the last year - you have truly shown the power of collective action. We have been blown away by the ingenuity and determination of our charity partners to work harder than ever for the people that rely on them. Your generosity has made a lasting difference to those organisations and the people that they support.

Amy Barnecutt is Director of A Partner in Education and she pitched at our Autumn Funder from the school she runs in Rwanda. Amy wrote to us recently and said:

We were absolutely thrilled to be invited to participate in one of TFN’s live crowdfunding events. In such a difficult year for so many charities, the money raised for APIE will make a huge difference to our work. We all ended the evening feeling energised and inspired. The TFN pitch was the highlight of 2020 for me!

From all of us and the charities we have supported this year, thank you. We hope to see you at our upcoming events, where we will continue to work together to create positive change.
