News from TFN International
Over the last few months our International Director, Eugenie, has been travelling far and wide to meet civil society organisations working to drive social change in their countries. In December she attended the Global Summit on Community Philanthropy in Johannesburg, meeting representatives from across the world and hearing about their work embedding local philanthropy from Malawi to Afghanistan, Costa Rica to Bangladesh. She also attended a civil society conference in Russia, which was followed up by a visit to London from Marina Mikhaylova, Director of the Arkhangelsk Centre of Social Technologies. Arkhangelsk CST works to promote the development of community philanthropy in Northwest Russia.
Marina left behind temperatures of -40C and joined us in balmy London for our January Funding Event to experience the thrill of live crowdfunding for herself. Marina was enthusiastic about the possibilities for TFN’s giving circle model in Russia and is hopeful that Eugenie will attend a national conference for Russian community foundations in Arkhangelsk this April to present it to participants. Marina said that of particular value will be TFN’s focus on pitching and public speaking, something Russian non-profit leaders have little knowledge of or confidence doing, but as we know only too well, is crucial in building support for their critical work.
Now more than ever, we are grateful for the opportunity the international programme presents for us to connect and work with colleagues working in civil society around the world. Over the coming months we hope to share some of their experiences with you.
